KANDY: Narcotics Bureau of Sri Lanka police have seized 59 kilos of heroin in Katugasthota, near the central hill capital of Kandy here the other day.
Police also arrested four suspects including a woman and two vehicles in the raid, Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told media.
The latest haul of heroin brings the amount of drugs sized so far this year to over 200 kilos raising the alarm that the country is becoming a narcotics hub in the international drug trade.
This is the fourth biggest seizure in recent times. Last month the Narcotics Division of Sri Lanka’s Customs Department seized a heroin haul of over 100 kilograms in its Orugodwatta container yard. In a separate incident, the police recovered nine kilograms of heroin worth Rs. 63 million.
