TAIPAI: Apple, Xiaomi and other smartphones found violating Taiwan’s privacy laws by assembling users’ data and sending it back to company servers.
Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) opened the first round findings of its investigation during a legislative session.
Commission’s Vice Chairman Yu Hsiao Cheng said that during the legislative session, investigation has found problems with 12 phone models, almost every one of them will register with their company’s server without detailed on the specific issues.
Apple and Xiaomi were named in the commission but declined to list which other vendor were being investigated.
The companies have become popular in Asia, but the devices have drawn inquiry for sending customer data back to company servers without users’ permission.
Xiaomi make an apology for causing the privacy issues, and made changes to the phone’s software.
Taiwan’s NCC said that during the legislative session the privacy problems broaden to other brands including Apple.
