Taiwan stocks ascend 0.8%, TAIEX climbs 9,524.55pts

TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks ascended 0.8 percent on Wednesday as a stimulus package to enhance the stock market lifted investor sentiment, paced by gains in brokerage shares including Yuanta Financial.

As of 0130 GMT, the main TAIEX index had climbed to 9,524.55, tracking gains in other regional bourses and extending its 0.7 percent rise in the previous session.

Yuanta Financial, parent of the island’s biggest brokerages, added 2.6 percent and smaller rival Capital Securities rose 2 percent, while overall financial shares were up 1 percent.

 

Taiwan’s financial regulator said on Tuesday it will loosen the daily trading limit for shares to 10 percent from 7 percent as part of broader efforts to fuel trading in local stocks.

 

The Taiwan dollar rose 0.534 percent to stand at T$31.454 to the U.S. dollar.
