TDAP to enhance fruit export thru public-private partnership

KARACHI: Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Chief Executive M Muneer has taken suggestions from the representatives of fresh fruit and vegetable exporters to enhance fruit exports and decided to install VHT with public and private partnership to improve quality of fruits.

All Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers & Merchants Association (PFVA) Chairman Waheed Ahmed, after meeting with TDAP Chief Executive M Muneer, said that Pakistan had lost about $10 million export of mango and other fruits due to non-availability of VHT, which is must for healthy and germ-free fruits prior to shipment.

“PFVA have exported $435,293 fruits and $209,092 vegetables,” said Waheed, adding that Pakistani mango was purchased at 450 Yen per piece. He stressed the need of R&D and informed that PFVA is interested in establishing of a Laboratory for which Rs.300 million are required and the laboratory will help increase $7 billion in export.
