BANGKOK: Thailand’s exports dropped for the sixth consecutive month in June to 18.16 billion U.S. dollars, registering a 7.87-percent decline year-on-year, the Commerce Ministry said here the other day.

In the first half of 2015, the country’s exports revenue totaled 106.85 billion U.S. dollars, down 4.84 percent from the same period last year, said Somkiat Trairatpan, director of the ministry’s Office of Trade Policy and Strategy.

Meanwhile, imports stood at 18 billion U.S. dollars in June, according to Somkiat.

The country recorded a trade surplus of 3.47 billion dollars in the first six months.

The contraction in exports was attributed to factors including the falling oil price, slow global economic recovery and a marked drop in the export of automobiles and parts.

Car exports are expected to return to normal within August and the overall exports to expand again in the final quarter of the year, according to the director.
