BANGKOK: Thailand has launched a new marketing campaign with an aim to attract 1.05 million Indian visitors after a dip in arrivals in 2014 due to political turmoil. Last year 9.4 lakh Indians visited Thailand but arrivals were almost 10 percent lower. Overall too tourist arrivals declined due to disturbances.

In order to attract more visitors the local government is now showcasing Thai arts, culture and cuisine along with new destinations as a part of its Discover Thainess campaign. “We hope to receive over a million tourists from India this year. Indian visitors are amongst the top three highest spenders with average spend of over 40,000 Baht per person per trip. The average stay per trip too has increased from four-five days to seven days,” said Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, minister of tourism and sports of Thailand. India was ranked sixth amongst source markets for Thailand after China, Malaysia, Russia, Japan and Korea.
