Token tax to be collected at Excise offices only: Ali Tahir

LAHORE: Excise and Taxation Department has decided to collect token tax in Excise offices only to facilitate the citizens and to save them from frauds. Secretary Excise Ali Tahir has asked the directorate office to stop post offices from collecting token taxes. According to senior official of the Excise Directorate, this step has been taken due to a number of complaints from citizens.

Post offices are allegedly involved in fake stamping of token tax and overcharging. They are allegedly involved in overcharging and blackmailing citizens by fake assessment of their token tax amount. A number of fake stamp cases have been observed in Punjab. Now to prevent these fraudulent activities and for facilitating people Excise is going to start collecting token tax only in offices. Special windows and facilitation centers will be formed in all Excise offices of Punjab.

These facilitation centers will be established within February to make sure the collection of token tax in Excise offices instead of Post offices. For this purpose Excise is going to start new projects of public guideline and awareness. New facilitation centers will be established in this regard to guide the public about Taxes.
