CANBERRA: A total of 8,892 Australian hospitality businesses have received a 2015 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor.

As part of the awards fifth anniversary, TripAdvisor has inducted five-time (consecutive) award winners into its “Hall of Fame”. There are a total of 29,042 “Hall of fame” winners worldwide, including 582 in Australia.  With 270 five consecutive year winners, Queensland features the most number of “Hall of Fame” winners in the country.

“TripAdvisor is pleased to honour exceptional hospitality businesses that have received consistent praise and recognition by travellers on the site,” said Marc Charron president, TripAdvisor for Business. “By putting a spotlight on businesses that are focused on delivering great service to customers, TripAdvisor not only helps drive an improvement to hospitality standards around the world, it also gives businesses both large and small the ability to shine and stand out from the competition.”

New South Wales has seen a 126.2 percent increase in Certificate of Excellence recipient’s year on year, closely followed by Victoria with a 113.3 percent increase, whilst Western Australia takes third place with a 106.7 percent increase from 2014.

SA experienced a 99 percent increase, NT a 89 percent increase and TAS and QLD both experienced a 87.9 percent increase year on year.

TripAdvisor uses a proprietary algorithm to determine the winners of the Certificate of Excellence which takes into account the quality, quantity and recency of reviews and opinions submitted by travellers on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period as well as a business’s tenure and ranking on the Popularity Index on the site.

To qualify for the award, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.
