A strike that began Monday against four truck companies at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach ended as drivers returned to work Friday.

Drivers from Intermodal Bridge Transport, Pacer Cartage, Pac 9 and Harbor Rail Transport returned to work after the four-day strike.

The protesters claimed that they are misclassified as independent contractors.

Barb Maynard, a spokeswoman for the effort, said the drivers returned to work because they needed the money, not because the issues were resolved.

“They are not getting money while they are on the picket line and they are charged when they don’t work for trucks, insurance, parking, all of that, so it is very expensive for them to go on strike and they will likely strike again if things don’t change,” she said.

Phillip Sanfield, a spokesperson at the Port of Los Angeles, said the impact was minimal because only 472 of 13,700 trucks that haul cargo to and from the ports were affected.
