ANKARA: A total of 1,027 people were captured trying to illegally cross Turkey’s borders to enter into the country, according to a statement by the General Staff.
A large amount of weapons, ammunition and smuggled goods were also seized from the captured people, including seven magazines, 200 shotgun bullets, seven handguns, 68 bullets and half a kilogram of illegal drugs. The smuggled goods which were confiscated mostly included cigarettes, tobacco, livestock, electronic supplies and pipes used for oil smuggling.
The statement also said 854 of the detainees tried to cross the Turkish border from Syria, 51 were from Iran, 17 were from Iraq, 23 were from Greece and 82 were from Bulgaria.
