Two-day Pakistan Customs Golf Cup concluded on positive note

LAHORE: The two-day Pakistan Customs Golf Cup, first effort of its kind by the department, was concluded here the other day.

The event was inaugurated by Pakistan Rangers Punjab Director General Major General Umar Farooq Burki. Representatives of many other departments such as National Logistic Cell (NLC), Pakistan Railways, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other departments were present during two days of the tournament.

The event saw numbers of young and old golfers, including female and male showing their skills and expertise in golf. The closing ceremony was attended by the Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana as chief guest.

Customs Central Region Chief Collector Samaira Nazir, in her speech highlighted the vitality of participation in sports from the school level, and that government departments can also play an important role by harnessing talent and providing opportunities through holding sports competitions.

She further added that customs department has always endeavored to promote sports and made outstanding contributions in the fields of hockey and cricket, and has produced great hockey players like Samiullah, Kaleemullah, Hassan Sardar, Islahuddin, Farhat Khan and customs superstars like Jalaluddin and Saleem Yousaf.

The chief guest, in his address appreciated the efforts of the department for organising a successful tournament and emphasised that other departments should also come up with such endeavors for promotion of sports in Pakistan. The Governor said that it was encouraging to see that other sports like golf were gaining popularity in Pakistan.

Gymkhana Chairman Mian Misbah ur Rehman congratulated the customs department and hoped that this tournament will be a regular feature in the coming years.

In the end, the Governor distributed prizes and shields among the winners in respective categories. Overall, organising the golf tournament was a commendable effort on part of Customs Preventive Collector Zulfiqar Younas his team.
