LONDON: The Oil-rich nation, United Arab Emirates (UAE) had just signified its intention of sending its very own space probe named Hope to Mars in 2020 and become only the fourth country to do such.
Hope will be built to examine the red planet’s atmosphere, and the UAE’s young space program has divulged its lofty ambition of putting it into the orbit around Mars by 2021.
The country has also disclosed its intention of mounting a Mars mission in 2014 and from then on mission controllers have been putting together the plan.
UAE’s Mars Mission Project Manager, Omran Sharaf stated in a video, “Our science mission is to produce the first-ever truly global picture of the Martian atmosphere.” Sharaf added, “This is the first holistic study of the Martian climate, and how the layers of its atmosphere fit together.”
UAE scientists intend to use the map to understand further how the atmosphere of Earth evolved over the course of time. According to earlier research the red planet used to be a place filled with water just like Earth, so this implies that studying more about how the planet’s atmosphere has evolved over time could provide researchers insights about the future of our planet’s atmosphere.
The deputy project manager of the mission stated in the video said that the Hope mission could also aid the scientists investigate the atmospheres of alien planets as well by comparing them to the thin atmosphere of Mars.
