LONDON: U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Forestry & Paper and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.84%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Coca Cola HBC AG (LONDON:CCH), which rose 2.98% or 41.0 points to trade at 1417.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES) added 2.60% or 18.50 points to end at 730.50 and Dixons Carphone (LONDON:DC) was up 1.87% or 7.80 points to 425.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were International Airlines Group (LONDON:ICAG), which fell 3.68% or 20.50 points to trade at 537.00 at the close. Imperial Tobacco Group (LONDON:IMT) declined 3.38% or 109.00 points to end at 3120.00 and Whitbread (LONDON:WTB) was down 3.26% or 170.00 points to 5050.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1451 to 1208 and 438 ended unchanged.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.67% or 8.00 to $1194.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.33% or 1.96 to hit $60.89 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 2.54% or 1.69 to trade at $68.14 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.44% to 1.5187, while EUR/GBP fell 0.03% to 0.7368.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.41% at 95.20.
