REGINA: Chris Yost is learning a lot about relationships. Just not the one’s you’re likely thinking of.
The biology professor at the University of Regina is focusing research on the relationship bacteria in wastewater treatment facilities has on the environment, and in turn, public health.
It was announced this week that Yost is receiving nearly $585,000 for a research project to reduce harmful bacteria in waste water.
“What we’re looking studying is some impacts waste water treatment plants may have on anti-biotic-resistant genes and anti-biotic-resistant bacteria,” said Yost.
Two other universities — Dalhousie and Acadia — are partners in the project. Samples from waste water treatment plants in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Nunavut and Saskatchewan will be used.
