TOKYO: Unreal E3 Awards by GamesBeast, a new awards system spearheaded by GamesBeat itself that will place a strong emphasis on recognising virtual reality (VR) experiences built with Unreal Engine 4.

The Unreal E3 awards will be distributed throughout next week’s show. Any Unreal Engine project on display at the event is eligible to win. In terms of VR, there’s a ‘360 Degrees of Amazing’ category for developers that are ‘pushing VR forward’ and a ‘Through the Looking Glass’ category for new VR experiences. Other categories will recognise the best graphics, emotional experiences, use of physics, new IP, and small teams among others. There are even categories to titles that are ‘least expected’ to use the Unreal Engine and show-stealing projects.

Winners will be awarded an NVIDIA GTX 980 Ti 4K gaming graphics card. While a formal submission isn’t necessary, hopefuls can send an email to [email protected] to make sure to be on the company’s radar for the event.

“The goal of this awards program is to work with GamesBeat to recognize the talented, hardworking, creative developers and publishers pushing the boundaries with our tech,” said Ray Davis, general manager of Unreal Engine, Epic Games. “We’re celebrating all the different types of projects being made with Unreal, from independent projects to VR experiences and big budget games.”

VRFocus will continue to follow Epic Games and Unreal Engine, reporting back with any further VR-related updates.
