Sharing a strong family resemblance with the other sedans in VW’s lineup-most obviously the Euro-market Passat-this concept forgoes the current CC’s rounded contours in favour of a more angular, creased design.

The nose is more purposeful, with a wide grille flowing into broad, squat headlights. The corners of the front fascia are punctuated by a set of large, aggressive lower air inlets. The VW badge is also mounted high, punching a deep notch into the hood. VW says the Sport Coupe Concept GTE features a plug-in-hybrid drivetrain-hence the GTE portion of its name-with a gasoline-fuelled TSI engine powering the front wheels and a pair of electric motors of unspecified output driving the rears.
