EDINBURG, TEXAS: U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector arrested a sex offender, a convicted murderer and seized millions of dollars’ worth of narcotics over the last several days.
The man with the homicide conviction was arrested Saturday evening by agents assigned to the Falfurrias Station as he was walking along U.S. Highway 281 near the rest area in Brooks County. A records check revealed that the man, who is a Mexican national, was arrested in Pharr and convicted of homicide in 1994.
Sunday morning the convicted sex offender was arrested by agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station. During processing, agents discovered the man, who is a Salvadoran national, was arrested by the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia and convicted for statutory rape.
Additionally, agents seized more than 2 tons of narcotics in multiple seizures over the last few days. In one of the larger seizures, agents from the Rio Grande City station encountered fresh footprints traveling north and located multiple bundles of narcotics abandoned on a trail. Eight subjects were seen heading back across the Rio Grande into Mexico. Total seizures over the last few days netted more than 4,200 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $3.3 million.
