NEW YORK: A 28-year-old man will face more than 11 years in prison. Mario Guadalupe Saenz was sentenced today.
In October 2014, investigators said they saw Saenz drive his U.S. Department of Agriculture vehicle through an opening in the border fence. They said he picked up a bag from the brush near the Rio Grande River in Hidalgo County.
Investigators arrested Saenz after he met with an undercover agent. The bag he picked up had about two pounds of cocaine in it.
Saenz pleaded guilty to drug smuggling charges in January. After he serves his time, He will spend five years under supervised release.
