MIAMI: US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at Miami International Airport detained a fugitive wanted for charges related to child pornography upon his arrival from Belize Jan. 23.
Robert Andrew Ragin, 56, had an outstanding arrest warrant from Brevard County, Fla., on twelve counts of promoting sexual performances of a child. Law enforcement in Belize apprehended Ragin earlier this month.
Agents from the U.S. Marshall’s service accompanied CBP officers to the gate upon arrival of the aircraft, where the subject was taken into custody. The subject will be turned over to local authorities for prosecution.
“CBP officers work closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to make sure wanted fugitives face justice,” said Port Director Christopher Maston. “We remain vigilant and will continue to proactively address threats, minimize vulnerabilities and maximize security.”
OFO is responsible for securing our borders at the ports of entry. CBP officers’ primary mission is anti-terrorism. They screen all people, vehicles, and goods entering the United States, while facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel into and out of the United States.
CBP conducts inspection operations and intercepts currency, weapons, prohibited agriculture products or other illicit items, and on average arrests 22 wanted persons a day at U. S. Ports of entry nationwide.
