MIAMI: US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers from Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport arrested a man wanted on a homicide warrant Jan. 8.
The U.S. citizen was returning from Kingston, Jamaica, when CBP officers became aware there was a warrant for his arrest out of the Broward Sheriff’s Office. CBP officers apprehended the suspect shortly after his plane arrived and subsequently turned him over to local authorities.
“Customs and Border Protection officers have a duty to protect our nation from all threats,” Fort Lauderdale International Airport Port Director Jorge Roig said. “Our officers ensure the security of our communities by intercepting individuals at the port of entry and keeping dangerous criminals off our streets.”
CBP conducts inspection operations and intercepts currency, weapons, prohibited agriculture products and other illicit items, and on average arrests 22 wanted persons a day at U. S. ports of entry nationwide.
