SAN ANTONIO: US Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector seized more than 2,600 pounds of marijuana worth more than $2 million in multiple seizures.
In one of the larger seizures, agents were responding to narcotics smuggling activity near Garciasville, where they found an abandoned GMC pickup truck.
Agents found 80 bundles of marijuana weighing more than 900 pounds in the bed of the pickup. The seizure was worth nearly $740,000.
Agents assigned to the Rio Grande City and McAllen Border Patrol stations arrested two convicted sex offenders, who were attempting to enter the US illegally.
One of the men was a Mexican national and the other a Honduran national. Both men had previous convictions for sex crimes, including child molestation and sexual assault of a child, Border Patrol officials said.
