FORT LAUDERDALE: More than 3 pounds of heroin that was concealed inside coconut wafers carried in the luggage of a passenger arriving from Colombia was seized at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said.
During examination of the traveler’s luggage, CBP officers noticed the traveler brought seven boxes of wafers.
Upon further examination, the officers found 3.4 pounds of heroin, according to CBP officials.
“This interception is an excellent example of how our highly trained officers continue to use their experience and knowledge to detect and interdict the flow of illegal narcotics into the U.S.,” Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Port Director Jorge Roig said.
All evidence was seized and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations.
