NEW YORK: Two people were arrested in San Luis, Ariz., and officials seized almost 35 pounds of methamphetamine in two separate incidents, US Customs and Border Protection agents said.

According to a press release, a 24-year-old man from San Luis, Sonora, Mexico was attempting to enter the United States when a drug-detection dog alerted officers that his vehicle contained drugs. Officers searched his vehicle and found $103,000 worth of meth in the man’s spare tire, officers said.

Earlier Wednesday morning, border-protection officials said another drug-detection dog alerted officials that a 17-year-old man from San Luis, Ariz., had drugs in his vehicle as well. After searching the vehicle, officers said they discovered half a pound of meth underneath the front seat that was worth about $1,650.

Agents said they confiscated the vehicles and meth before turning the two suspects over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

San Luis, Ariz, is a suburb of Yuma in the southwestern corner of the state, on the U.S.-Mexico border.
