NEW YORK: US Customs and Border Protection agency was to name three boats after members who died in the line of duty.
A vessel naming ceremony was scheduled at a boat launch in Harrison Township.
Patrol inspectors Franklin P. Wood, Earl A. Roberts and Charles F. Inch were killed in the Detroit area.
Wood’s boat was rammed in December 1927 while chasing another boat on the Detroit River near Wyandotte. His body never was found.
Roberts was shot to death in March 1929 by a liquor smuggler on the St. Clair River in Algonac.
Inch died in June 1932 after having been thrown from a moving freight train. He was pursuing two people trying to enter the country illegally from Canada.
