Trung reported the case to his subordinates, who later spread the news on speakers.

Tran Thi Thanh Nga, a 30-year-old guest worker from the nearby Hung Yen Province, showed up around 15 minutes later to receive the money.

Nga said the bag contained 1.269 million yen that she saved from three years working in Japan.

“I’m very grateful,” Nga said in expressing her appreciation for the customs, a state sector that has been riddled with businesses’ complaints about bribe demands for easy cargo pass.

Many passengers have also complained that they were elicited bribe when they carried valuable items such as supplements or perfume.
