HANOI: A Viet Nam-Czech business forum was held yesterday in the capital city with an aim of creating opportunities for enterprises from both nations to further links in trade and investment.

Addressing the function, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Doan Duy Khuong said bilateral trade had enjoyed stable growth in recent years, hitting nearly US$295 million in 2014, up 23 per cent compared with the previous year.

Khuong said that the figure was expected to reach $1 billion in the near future as the two sides take full advantage of co-operative opportunities and support from their governments.

Czech Senate President Milan Stech said his country was willing to bring to Viet Nam expertise and advanced technologies in mechanics, energy, transport and health care.

The Czech Republic welcomed large investment projects in the mechanical sector, he said, adding that the country wished to increase its goods imported to Viet Nam and attract more Vietnamese workers in the future.

Viet Nam has mainly exported coffee, tea, pepper, rice, rubber, seafood, garments, handicrafts and computer parts to the Czech Republic. It has imported milk and milk products, machinery, glass and plastics from the Czech Republic.

Co-hosted by the VCCI, the Czech Chamber of Commerce and the Czech Embassy in Viet Nam, the forum brought together a crowd of Vietnamese firms and nearly 20 Czech enterprises operating in the fields of chemicals, insurance, mechanics, construction, medical equipment, automation and aviation.
