War zone: Russia evacuates border customs officials

Russia: The spokesman of the Southern Customs Department Rayan Farukshin told reporter that customs officers of the Russian Kuibyshevo border checkpoint in the southern region have been evacuated due to clashes in the neighboring Ukrainian terrain.

“At about 17.00 Moscow time (6:00 PM PST) officials of the customs office at the multi-way automobile checkpoint of Kuibyshevo had to evacuate due to fresh armed measures in the Ukrainian region,” he said.

“Four shells dropped at a distance of about 200 meters (656 feet) from the checkpoint,” he said without specifying where it happened but apparently they had landed in the Russian territory.

According to initial reports, the checkpoint was not damaged. Previously, two wounded Ukrainian officials were handed over to Russia via the said checkpoint and were later delivered to hospitals in a severe condition.
