BEIJING: This is the generation of ‘smartphone holders. Yes we are talking about you. If you are reading this, chances are your smartphone is no further than 3 feet from you and you sometimes hear custom notification alerts for your email, messages and updates even when nothing new came in.

In the field of VoIP apps and internet messaging, WeChat and Viber have created a place for themselves, despite the fact that both are relatively new apps and have had to face the tough competitors like Skype and MSN.

There are a good number of free messaging applications in the market today and WeChat and Viber is one of them.

Viber, the mobile messaging app just acquired by Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten for $900 million, allows users to share images, video, audio, and text messages. The service is a direct competitor to other mobile messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, LINE, and WeChat.
BI Intelligence took a look at the growth rates of these apps to get a sense of how they stack up. Our estimates are based on a compilation of company announcements, media reports, investor presentations, and market data.

What’s’ more, they’ve actually left the major names far behind and almost taken up a monopoly of the mobile world.

Slowly extending their reach towards the PC world, these apps have sent a clear message to their older competitors – They are here to stay.

WeChat can be termed as one of the best free messaging and calling apps currently available. This is because just like its competitors, WhatsApp and Viber, WeChat offers all the services offered by both apps. It allows for free calling and messaging among other in built features common with the competitors. Actually, the fact that WeChat can allow users to make free calls places it a tad bit higher than WhatsApp in terms of features. Even so, WhatsApp is expected to be upgraded in the near future to include a voice call function.

Although both these apps are superlative in their own ways, a choosing the right one would depend a lot upon your needs and choices. Their features and aspects need to be thoroughly assessed before you pick the one that’s the best for you.

WeChat on the contrary is known for the provision of free games, sharing of location, emoticons and ability to add new users by scanning their QR codes. The shake feature helps you locate users shaking their phone with you simultaneously and Moments acts like Status messages on Facebook.
