LONDON: Most of the users are of the view that Skype is the undefeated master of cost free video and voice call. But let’s not disregard Viber or WhatsApp either. The competition is on, each of these apps bringing their best to the table.
Even if WhatsApp has only been competing with Viber and Skype on the instant text message part, currently this app has also incorporated the free voice call feature.
Availability regarding the services
WhatsApp database consists of 700 million users worldwide. A pretty impressive number considering the limited services it has to offer. Also considering the fact that WhatsApp just introduced a PC customer, meaning that is has been going up against just the mobile variant. The other two apps have more variants out there. These include: the mobile device, the tablets and last but not least the computer. Skype can also be used on Smart TVs and Play Stations.
So if you have opted for Viber or Skype, you can easily send messages or engage in a free call with users that are on their tablets, computers or mobiles. These discussions can be easily “moved” between devices.
The quality of the calling feature
WhatsApp is still a newbie in the VoIP area and it’s still in the testing zone. Android users are the sole beneficiaries of this characteristic. But it still has a long way to go before it can compare to Skype and Viber.
Viber and Skype have HD codecs implemented-a feature that will offers users the best quality in terms of image and sound.
Video call availability
Rumour has it that WhatsApp is preparing to release this type of feature in the month of May. So while this is something that users are looking forward to test, people on Skype and Viber are already taking advantage of the HD video calls available on these two apps.
