TORONTO: Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street was the most pirated movie of the year while Disney’s Frozen trailed proximately behind. Even with the abundance of legal streaming options and VOD availability, people are still pirating a ton of movies (and TV shows) every year.

Like last year’s list of the most pirated films, the movies topping the list for 2014 include theatrical releases from the previous year, like ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ and ‘Frozen.’ Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street and Disney’s smash hit Frozen have topped the list of the most pirated movies of 2014.

The Toronto-shot remake of Robocop garnered over 29.8 million downloads. The Wolf of Wall Street was nominated for best picture at this year’s Oscars. Many other Oscar nominated films made the list of the most downloaded movies of 2014, including 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle and Captain Phillips.

Torrenting movies is technically illicit and, starting Jan. 1, Canadian Internet accommodation providers will be subject to Canada’s incipient Copyright Modernization Act, a component of which is aimed at cracking down on illicit downloads.
