Xiaomi, Apple, others cleared of violation charges in Taiwanese privacy laws

TAIWAN: Taiwanese regulators cleared on Tuesday China’s Xiaomi Inc and other smartphone brands in case of  breaching local data bulwark laws after national security concerns triggered the regime to launch a probe in September.

The National Communications Commission, in a report concluding the investigation, verbally expressed all the 12 brands it had tested, which include handsets sold by Apple Inc, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, LG Electronics Inc and Sony Corp, did not transgress the laws.

In August, the company apologized and verbalized it would transmute a default feature after a Finnish security company verbalized Xiaomi accumulated address book data without users’ sanction.  In September, Taiwan’s regime commenced performing independent tests on Xiaomi phones after media reports verbalized that some models automatically send utilizer data back to the firm’s servers in mainland China.

The NCC report verbalized handsets made by local firms HTC Corp, Asustek Computer Inc, Far EasTone Telecommunications Co Ltd, Taiwan Mobile Co Ltd and U.S.-predicated InFocus Corp, whose handsets are made by Taiwan’s Precision Industry Co Ltd, were additionally cleared of breaching the data auspice laws.
