BEIJING: Xiaomi, the world’s fourth largest smartphone manufacturer has an event at the National Conference Center, Beijing later in the noon today where it will be launching new devices. While the company hasn’t confirmed the number and name of the handsets it will be launching, Xiaomi CEO earlier this month said that the company will be launching a new flagship device today.

Since that announcement, we have seen many new leaks and a lot of teasers that suggest that Xiaomi has at least two handsets set for launch today. One handset will be the Xiaomi Mi 5, the successor to last year’s flagship Mi 4. From what we have heard so far, the Mi 5 will have a screen of size ranging between 5.2-inch and 5.5-inch with 2.5D display and QHD resolution. The 2.5D is a special kind of display that curves at the edges. The handset is said to carry 3GB of RAM with 16GB and 64GB memory options. For the processor, the handset is pegged to be powered by Snapdragon 805 chipset. On the camera front, it is expected to sport a 20.7-megapixel rear shooter.

Recent alleged specs and AnTuTu benchmark info of the Mi 5, however, reveals that the handset will have Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB of RAM with 13-megapixel camera. The handset is expected to come in two color options: white and black.

The company is also expected to launch the Redmi Note 2 handset at the event. The phablet will be superseding the last year’s Redmi Note 4G. From what we have heard so far, the Redmi Note 2 features a 5.7-inch 1080p 2.5D display, 64-bit capable octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.5GHz paired with Adreno 306 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Also likely to be included are 16GB/32GB internal storage, 13-megapixel shooter with dual-tone dual-LED flash, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3,600mAh battery.

In addition to the two handsets, the company may also launch the Mi 5 Plus. From a leaked image, the device seems to have curved edges, thinner bezel, and wider screen. The image, unfortunately, didn’t reveal any more details.
