HARARE: Zimbabwe’s annualised inflation rate eased by 0.11 percentage points in June from the May level of minus 2.70 percent, the country’s statistics agency announced Wednesday.According to the Zimbabwe National Statistical Agency (ZIMSTAT), consumer inflation in the southern African country was pegged at minus 2.81 percent in June on the back of falling prices.
ZIMSTAT however revealed that the indicative month-on-month inflation rate eased by 0.14 percent in June compared to a 0.19 decline in the previous month.
The deflationary economic environment, which has persisted for more than a year, has been cause for concern for economists who view it as reflective of low economic activity, blamed on a shrinking manufacturing base and low liquidity.
