0.25 million notices issued: Taxpayers should pay their taxes honestly, says Shahid

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) spokesperson Shahid Hussain Asad has said that government is striving to bring 0.1 million people in tax net every year to improve tax collections.

Talking to Radio Pakistan’s programme FBR spokesperson said that ratio of tax collection needs to be improved and all tax payers should pay their taxes honestly. He said FBR has been trying to seek help from NADRA’s database for tax collection purposes. Some people are not paying taxes regularly and honestly.

He also said that FBR has issued notices to 0.25million people, while 40 thousand people submitted their tax returns. The government is striving to bring 0.1 million people in the tax net every year, he added.

Former Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen also said in the programme that economic indicators have been improving as a result of introduction of micro finance system. Economy of the country has been on the right track because of interest of foreign investors to invest in different development projects in Pakistan, he added.

He said present government has reduced the petroleum prices significantly by passing on the benefits of declining international oil prices to end consumers. The reduction of oil prices has resulted in facilitation to common man.

Director of Economy Watch Dr. Ghulam Murtaza said that an improvement has been observed in economic indicators of the country due to prudent economic policies of the present government.

He said the economy of the country has been on right track and IMF has also appreciated the economic policies of Pakistan. After the improvement of security situation in the country, foreign investors have been taking deep interest to invest in Pakistan, he added.

Dr.Murtaza said improvement in micro finance indicators has also resulted in betterment of economy of our country. Overseas Pakistanis are also supporting government’s efforts by sending huge remittances to the motherland.

Economist Dr. Shahid Hassan Siddiqui also said that present government has embarked on reforming the economic policies of the country and government of Saudi Arabia had supported Pakistan with 1.5 billion dollars. He said Pakistani expatriates working in various countries have also sent remittances amounting to two billion dollars which has improved the foreign exchange reserves of the country.

“Our experts have the ability to make Pakistan Steel Mills and PIA profitable entities. We have to fully utilize their potential. Taxpayers should be assured that their hard earned money will be utilized in development projects,” he added.
