LAHORE: Prolonging their protest against the imposition of 0.3 per cent withholding tax on all banking transactions, the business community has announced to boycott upcoming by-elections of NA-122 (Lahore) and NA-154 (Lodhran).
All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran (APAT) General Secretary Naeem Mir, in a statement, said that the APAT has directed not only to their member traders but also businessmen of other associations not to participate in any political activity till the WHT is abolished.
He said that APAT will hang black banners in these constituencies to raise the voice against double taxation of the govt and when the candidates of these by-elections visit markets the traders will hold protest, convincing them to go back until govt is not agreed to accept the demands of traders. The govt seems to be oblivious of the traders issues despite four countrywide shutter down strikes which is a record in the history of Pakistan.
