LAHORE: The textile millers have asked the government to declare textile industry loadshedding-free during the holy month of Ramazan.
All Pakistan Textile Mills Association’s (Aptma) Punjab chapter acting chairman Syed Ali Ahsan, in a statement, said that the proposed 10 hours loadshedding, starting half an hour before Iftar and ending half an hour after Sehr, would force the industry to close down one shift and lay off tens and thousands of workers across Punjab. “This would be unfair to the labourers ahead of Ramazan and no one would want to lay them off,” he added.
He said the total load of textile units on independent feeders was hardly 120-150MW, which could easily be managed by the Ministry of Water and Power in order to ensure smooth operations.
