KARACHI: Director Transit Trade Ibrahim Vighio has revealed that the Afghan Transit Trade has been fully streamlined with cent percent tracking throughout the journey.
“Every single truck transporting transit trade cargo is fitted with a tracking device that not only detects any delayed stoppage at a scheduled stopover point but also at all scheduled stoppages. In all such cases, all the Customs collectorates are alerted about these delayed scheduled stoppages and unscheduled stoppages which in turn help us closely monitor the movement of Afghanistan-bound transit cargoes,” Ibrahim told Customs Today on Thursday.
The Afghan transit cargoes are not only tracked cent per cent but they are also scanned hundred percent at the Karachi ports, he added. Over 2,000 containers laden with Afghan transit cargoes leave the Karachi ports every month. The movement of every single truck carrying the Afghan transit cargoes is being monitored up to the Torkham and Chaman border posts. To ensure that the transit trade cargoes reach Afghanistan, Pakistan Customs is provided a copy of the release document by Afghan counterparts, Ibrahim informed.
Ibrahim disclosed that the major items of Afghan Transit Trade cargoes still mainly comprise tea (both green and black), fabric, tyres and cooking oil. A significant increase has been registered in food and related items which are primarily meant for the consumption of the NATO forces, he added.
