OTTAWA: Police seized 1,000 fentanyl pills, 100 grams of cocaine and a small amount of marijuana from a suspected Chestermere-based supplier following a joint investigation by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) and Lloydminster RCMP.
Officers peg the value of the drugs at $50,000.
The bust happened May 27 during a traffic stop in south Edmonton when a Chestermere man, 22, and a woman, 23, were arrested and charged with two counts each of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The investigation was launched two days earlier by Lloydminster RCMP following the seizure of cocaine and arrest of a 30-year-old man in that northern Alberta city.
“This file is a good example of how the ongoing co-operation between the Lloydminster RCMP and ALERT can not only help to clean up the streets of Lloydminster, but address the suppliers from larger centres that attempt to bring their dangerous product to our city,” Lloydminster RCMP Sgt. Gerald Walker said in a release.
