LAHORE: The All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association has announced 100,000 tonnes mango export target for this year.
PFVA Chairman Waheed Ahmed, said that the export of mango that will start from May 20, 2016 will generate 75 million dollars foreign exchange.
He informed that to increase mango export the new markets of China, Iran, Russia, Central Asia and Belarus will be focused, adding that due to non-installation of the required plant mango could not be exported to Japan this year too. Waheed Ahmed said that mango production is expected to reach 16,00,000 tonnes this season.
He said export target of 100,000 tonnes could not be achieved last year as there was 40 percent fall in mango production due to harsh weather. Around 72,000 tonnes mangos were exported last year, he added.
He said that UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, European and Scandinavian countries are the traditional buyers of Pakistan’s mangos, while new markets that include South Korea, Japan, China, America and Australia have also been opened in the past few years.
