1,000MW to be produced thru wind corridor by 2018

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will be producing about 1,000-megawatt electricity through wind corridor by 2018 as more investors are showing interest in this source of energy generation.

Pakistan’s wind corridor in district of Thatta has potential to generate up to 50,000MW electricity which will be sufficient to meet power demands for years, Plants Foundation Wind Energy Limited General Manager Col (R) Muzaffar Hussain said on Tuesday.

In a statement issued here, he said Balochistan’s coastal areas also have huge potential for alternative green energy and emphasized the need to improve infrastructure facilities and also conducting of a survey in this regard.

Col Muzaffar said that 200MW wind power plants have been installed and another 200MW were under construction as the government has set a target of 1000MW by 2018. He said that Fauji Foundation was pioneer in renewable energy initiatives. Investors were hesitant to invest but now their confidence is soaring and a number of local and foreign investors are taking keen interest in this sector, he added.
