12 injured as clashes erupt during protest against power, gas outages in Karak

KARAK: Clashes between police and citizens erupted Sunday when the later were protesting against the low gas pressure and power loadshedding.

The protesters tried to occupy the sale meter station of the SNGPL and blocked the Indus Highway, over which the police used heavy teargas to disperse them. At least 12 people sustained injuries, when police opened firing in the air and threw teargas shells over the stone-hurling protesters. The fainted protesters were shifted to district headquarters hospital, Karak.

Later, Karak assistant commissioner Ataul Munem and DSP headquarters tried to hold negotiations with the leaders of protesters, but they refused to end the agitation.
