1,200 flights use Pak airspace paying US $400 each: CAA may suffer US $480,000/day loss after EASA directives

ISLAMABAD – After the recommendation made by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to the foreign airlines for not using Pakistan’s airspace, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)-Pakistan is expected to suffer an average financial loss of around US $480,000 per day due to potential terrorist threats, says a report.

Sources said the recommendation was based on the reports of National Aviation Authorities (NAA), which indicated the existence of an increased risk to the safety of international civil flights, due to potential terrorist attacks in Pakistan.

They added some 1200 international flights have been using Pakistani airspace daily and CAA-Pakistan charges an average US $400 from every aircraft which uses Pakistan airspace as per the weight of the aircraft. As per the estimates, the CAA-Pakistan earns an average US $480, 000 per day from flights – that use Pakistani airspace to reach their destinations, sources maintained.
