PRESIDO: US Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers seized 124 pounds of marijuana at the Presidio port of entry.
According to a report, CBP officers made the drug bust when a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck entered the port from Mexico.
The pickup truck was referred for an x-ray exam where abnormalities were seen in all four tires.
When officers continued their exam, they found that all four wheels of the truck had specially made metal collars attached to the rims.
Officers arrested the driver of the truck, 53-year-old Jose Antonio Tarango, a United States citizen from Odessa, Texas.
Tarango was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement HSI special agents to face federal charges in connection with the failed smuggling attempt.
