130,000 poultry units distributed under CM’s self-employment program

RAWALPINDI: As many as 130,000 poultry units have been distributed in rural areas on subsidized rates under the CM’s Rural Self-Employment Programme.

Talking to APP, Director Poultry Research Institute, Dr Abdul Rehman said that during current fiscal year a total 200,000 poultry units would be distributed in 36 districts of the province. The basic concept of the programme was to empower rural women by providing them business opportunities at their doorsteps.

Dr Abdul Rehman said that under the supervision of provincial Secretary Livestock Naseem Sadiq, efforts were being carried out for distribution of poultry units in all rural union councils of the province and the rural population were getting benefits from this programme. He said, a poultry unit (5+1) costs Rs 1320 while Punjab government was providing it at a cost of Rs 920 at subsidized rate.

He said, the income resources can be increased by developing poultry sector at domestic level and the government is providing every possible assistance to enable the people to become self-reliant.
