15-20% decrease suggested: Transporters scheduled to meet amid hope for fare cut

LAHORE: In the aftermath of a considerable cut in the prices of the petroleum products, the representative bodies of passengers and goods’ transporters are scheduled to meet here as around 10 per cent decrease is expected at inter and intra-city routes across the country.

According to reports, the officials, however, suggested that the transporters must announce cut the fare by 15 to 20 percent. Non-AC urban transport fares should be reduced by 15 percent while AC buses by 20 per cent. Similarly, the fares of goods transport should be decreased by 18 to 20 percent.

It is to be recalled that though announced by the Punjab government, the decrease in fares was not made parallel by the transporters when a month back the petroleum prices were reduced.

There are reports that transport fares were remained almost same in other three provinces including the rail, air and goods transport fare countrywide.
