ISLAMABAD: Weekly inflation for the week ended on April 9 witnessed an increase of 0.78 percent as compared to the previous week for the lowest income group up to Rs 8,000.
The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week under review in the above-mentioned group was recorded at 201.56 points against 200.00 points registered in the previous week, according to data of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
Meanwhile, the SPI for the combined income group was also increased by 0.66 percent as it went up from 207.74 points in the previous week to 209.11 points in the week under review.
Similarly, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review decreased by 2.07 percent.
As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-Rs 12,000, Rs 12,001-Rs 18,000 and Rs 18,001-Rs 35,000 increased by 0.72, 0.70 and 0.67 percent, respectively.
During the week under review, the average prices of 13 items registered decrease, 12 items’ prices increased, while the remaining 28 items’ prices unchanged.
The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included potatoes, eggs (farm), LPG cylinder, vegetable ghee (loose), wheat flour, garlic, wheat, cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee (tin), rice basmati (broken), pulse masoor (washed), pulse gram (washed) and red chili powder (loose).
The items which recorded increase in their average prices included onion, tomatoes, chicken farm (live), sugar, bananas, pulse mash (washed), jaggery (gur), pulse moong (washed), mustard oil, curd, mutton and kerosene oil.
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice irri-6, bread plain, beef, milk fresh, powdered milk, salt powder (loose), tea, cooked beef, cooked pulse, tea prepared, cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn printed, georgette, gents sandal, gents chappal, ladies sandal, electric charges, gas charges, firewood, electric bulb, washing soap, match box, petrol, hi-speed diesel, telephone call charges and bath soap.
