LONDON: August 29 will be the first ‘Supermoon’ of three in a row this fall. The National Weather Service has predicted dull weather for Saturday night and it is also predicted that the skull will be full clouds and there are 40% chances that it will rain.
Experts explain that supermoon is the coincidence of a full or a new moon with the closest approach the moon makes to earth on its elliptical orbit. Owing to this, the supermoon looks slightly larger than normal in the sky.
The term supermoon was used for the first time in 1979 by astronomer Richard Nolle. Nolle defined supermoon as the one that occurs within at least 90% of its closest orbit. Supermoon will also take place on September 28 and October 27. Out of the three, Sepetmber’s full moon will be the largest. And, it will also be a total lunar eclipse or blood moon.
Last time, blue moon was on July 31. The term is used when there are two full moons in the same month. As per experts, there will be no blue moon till 2018 and is already a rare occurrence.
Since Middle Ages, the idea is prevalent that changes happen in human behavior during the moon phases. It is said that there are more doctor visits on full moon and one of the reasons could be gravitation pull created by a full moon.
