TUCSON: Border agents have arrested two people, including a California woman, in separate incidents of drug smuggling at the Port of Nogales.
Customs and Border Protection officials said Friday that a 36-year-old woman from Lynwood and a 22-year-old Mexican national are in the custody of federal immigration officials.
Authorities say a drug-sniffing dog alerted agents Wednesday to metal boxes in the tires of the woman’s truck. The boxes contained more than 128 pounds of methamphetamines valued at $385,000.
Later the same day, a suspect from Nogales, Sonora was found with cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine in his Jeep SUV.
The amounts ranged from almost 5 pounds of heroin to 14 pounds of cocaine. The drugs were estimated to have a street value totaling $264,000.
