ISLAMABAD: Despite no confirmed date of Chinese President’s visit to Pakistan, a special body, formed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under the supervision of Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, has reviewed arrangements for Xi Jinping’s trip to the country, which is likely to be made this month.
Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, besides other senior officials also attended the meeting to review the plans in honour of the friendly country’s leader.
A finance ministry official said that Dar was briefed on the responsibilities assigned to various ministries and departments and the reception plan and security arrangements for the high-profile visit.
The committee also discussed agreements to be signed during the visit. The finance minister stressed the need for complete inter-ministerial coordination for finalisation of all proposed agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs).
He said there should be an alternative route plan to avoid any inconvenience to the general public. He called for elaborate arrangements for media coverage with due focus on highlighting the significance of the visit which was expected to herald a new era of cooperation with projects under the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor.
Sources said more than two dozen MoUs relating to nuclear power, Gwadar Port, energy sector, trade and investment would be signed by the two countries.
