KARACHI: After losing 12 lives in an accident this week, Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has started crackdown against intercity transporters violating the rules and installing sub-standard CNG cylinders.
During crackdown, two persons were arrested and four inter-city passenger vans were impounded and charged Rs25,000 as fine near Taj Complex, Saddar over installing sub-standard CNG cylinder and unavailability of emergency exit gate in the vehicles, by the officials concerned.
The Commissioner has directed Secretary RTA Manshad Ali to expedite the steps against substandard CNG Kits in public transport including inter-city buses and vans.
He expressed deep sorrow over loss of lives in a recent road accident caused due to CNG cylinder explosion on Karachi-Hyderabad Super Highway. He said that the use of substandard or expired CNG cylinders is a high risk and no negligence will be tolerated in this regard.
